About Our School
40 Years of Christ-Centered Education
Southeast Christian School was first established as Christian Way School in 1977 at Gateway Christian Church in Aurora, Colorado. Richard Achenbach, or “Mr. A”, was the founding principal. The school was supported by five Denver area Christian churches and started with less than 50 students. Today, we are a school with a student body flourishing with over 600 preschool through 8th-grade students, as well as a homeschool enrichment program.”
“Southeast Christian School is a partner organization with Southeast Christian Church, with whom we also share a building. As such, the school maintains alignment with the church relationally, organizationally, philosophically, and theologically. Select members of Southeast Christian Church’s Executive Leadership Team occupy seats on our School Board, and act as advisors to our school leadership.
Southeast Christian School’s Kindergarten through 8th-Grade program is a covenant-model school. This means that we seek to partner only with Christian families who are aligned with the mission and vision of SCS. We do our best to ensure this model is upheld by utilizing a rigorous admissions process for prospective families, and holding our current families to the same standards. Every SCS family must sign and abide by our statement of faith.
At Southeast Christian School, you will see Biblical integration across all subjects, as well as Bible as a core academic class. Our main focus is on instilling a Biblical worldview in our students in all disciplines.
For more than 40 years the strength of the school has been our solid faculty. Besides parents, teachers are often the most influential adults in the life of a child. SCS is blessed by staff members who not only teach, but act daily in many other capacities to support and guide students. These actions reflect the commitment our entire faculty has to being a positive role model for students, focusing on character development alongside academics. Many of our faculty members hold advanced degrees in a variety of disciplines. K-8 teachers are required to pursue ACSI certification in addition to their Colorado state license.
We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with so many amazing families in our school community. Parents are an integral and important voice in the lives of our students and the culture at Southeast. We believe it is important to partner with parents to create a well-rounded, continuous education experience for our students that is consistent at home and at school. We encourage all of our families to get involved at the school, whether through a parent-led prayer group, volunteering with our Parent Community Organization (PCO), or as part of our Parent Advisory Council (PAC). We look forward to partnering with future parents to create Christian disciples ready to build the Kingdom.
